The unspoiled lands protected under the Roadless Rule offer some of the purest water in America, are home to some of our nation’s most precious wildlife, and contain the beautiful places we play in when hiking and biking, hunting and fishing.

Water

Roadless areas help protect 354 watersheds that serve as drinking as drinking water sources for 60 million people nationwide.

Wildlife

Species like elk, grizzly bear and salmon thrive in roadless forests, as do most fish and wildlife. Reducing protections for these areas would force wildlife to retreat even further into ever dwindling pristine habitat.

Recreation

Roadless forests are where the best hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, fishing and hunting happen in our national forests. If logging and road building are allowed, outdoor recreationists will lose these wild places and be squeezed into smaller and smaller spaces.
